ReviewMusik (RM) : Hi Lost Priority! Nice to have interview with you guys. Could you introduce your band and members?

Lost Priority (LP) : Hi, it’s nice to be a part of your On-line community in Indonesia, and we hope to create a fan-base over there, and if our fan-base is large enough we hope to do some shows there too.

We are Lost Priority, an all Native Rock Group from an isolated Indian Reserve called Wasagamack in Manitoba, Canada.  I am the vocalist/guitarist and my name is Jonathan Harper.  Other members are Stanley Mcdougall (guitarist), J.R. Harper (Bass), and Mark Harper (Drums).  And we’ve been playing together for 8 years.

RM : Lost Priority is an unique name, what`s the message behind the name?

LP : When we first started off, our band name was Skin Deep.  And the reason why we picked that name was so that people shouldn’t judge us by our ethnicity or looks, but to really listen to the music without any judgement of our ethnicity (if that makes sense). In my opinion, in North America it’s all about pretty faces, and superficial stuff.  The stereotype that plagues our nation is the belief that we are all dirty, jobless, nothing but drunks, and so on.  And that really affects me as a human being. But then we soon found out that the name Skin Deep had been taken by another established band.

Then we chose Lost Priority.  The name sounded cool, but also it said a lot about us and our people.  Most times we feel we are forgotten as youth and as people, and the other aspect to it is most of us have lost our culture and that may be one the largest contributing factor for our downfalls.  But there can also be a lot of different interpretations.

But to make it clear, we are not a political band but we do have strong feelings towards some topics.

RM : How do you describe Lost Priority music/genre?

LP : First of all, let me inform you of our influences.  As for myself, growing up I had older cousins that use to live with us when I was about 8 or 9 years old.  I use to find a lot of music in their rooms and that’s when I was exposed to bands like Gun’s & Roses and Metallica.  I remember the first time I heard rock, immediately I fell in love with that type of music.  When my band started out Nu-Metal was very popular at the time, and we loved it so much that we formed a band just to play their songs like Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Korn, etc.  We are still big fans of those bands but over the years we got into heavier stuff like Avenged Sevenfold and Killswitch Engage, but as of right now our album leans more beside the nu-metal influences.

RM : By the way, thanks to give us permission to post your song called "Inside" here for our readers. What is this song about?

LP : I guess you can say that the song can be personal or a reflection to my life, because I’ve made the lyrics.  To be honest this song is the first song we ever kept over the years because it sounded very good to us, so you can hear the Nu-Metal influence.  The song, as I wrote the lyrics, didn’t want to reveal all my secrets so I also had to put in some fiction in there as well, but at the same time it’s very straight-forward.  But the general meaning of the song is about holding something inside, something that it’s hard to let go, and you really have strong feelings about it.

RM : You have told me before via e-mail that your debut album will be out soon, what`s the title and what we can expect from it?

LP : Yes, the album is expected to come out in January 2009.  We decided to name the album “All That We Are”, because it matches well with our band name and our story, it’s also a song on the album too.  We believe If you like the song “Inside” that we’ve released already, then you’ll like the whole album.  The songs have different stories behind them but it’s still generally a rock album.

RM : What are favorite songs on your upcoming album?

LP : Personally, I don’t have a favourite song because I can’t pick just one.  Like I said, the songs have different meanings and captures different emotions.  I guess I would listen to something that I was feeling at that moment.

RM : Is there any ballad or intrumental?

LP : Unfortunately I love singing, so there is no instrumental on the album.

RM : You have website at http://www.myspace.com/lostpriority, we also met in Internet, and our readers will know you better from this site, so maybe Internet a fast way to promote your music. On the other hand, music piracy also distributed via Internet technology. What is your opinion about this contradiction?

LP : How I see it is “dime for a dime” kind of thing, without the internet we wouldn’t have had the privilege to reach out to a larger mass, and people that live very far away.  You don’t really see “independent” music on peer-to-peer programs like Limewire, and I don’t think we would be really affected by it.

RM : What`s the next step for Lost Priority then?

LP : To really promote our music, and play as many shows as we can.  One of my personal goals is to make a decent music video for at least one song on this album.

RM : Please if you have anything else you want to say?

LP : Just a note that we admire feedbacks from fans and critics (especially constructive ones), please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts.  You can reach us by email @ lost.priority@gmail.com.

And make sure to check our music out.
